A Catch Up with: Stylonylon

We don’t live in a bubble, our style affected by what we read, watch and do and is a constantly evolving creature. Fashion Magazines are great for discovering new designers, great places to travel and hot new trends, but I find people featured are often portrayed as living a near perfect lives, and instead of being a relaxing refreshing read, I end up feeling inadequate.

Over the past year, I’ve indulged by using some precious child free time, by reading blogs. I often find them honest and genuine, people’s own interpretation of current trends and ideas, living real lives that I can identify with. So, over the next few months I thought I’d share with you some of the blogs that are currently inspiring me.Stylonylon

Julia Rebaudo blogs at Stylonylon. She is the UK ambassador for Olympus Pen, and not surprisingly what I really love about her blog is her beautiful photography, particularly her love of bokeh. Bokeh? It’s a word of Japanese origin that refers to the blur in a photograph that is pleasing to the eye. I am no expert, but what I’ve gleaned is that it’s all about using the right lens with a wide aperture.stylonylon

Stylonylon is also a regular on instagram, and her outfits show a casual, laid back style that looks effortless. A parent too, she dresses in easy everyday clothes, from brands we (sometimes) know and love.

I asked her a few questions to find out a little more:

Why did you start your blog? I started the blog as something to do while on maternity leave from my freelance journalism. I’d never written about style before and it felt wonderfully indulgent! I’d also just started getting into photography and I wanted an outlet for my pictures.   My husband named the blog!

Where did the name Stylonylon come from? There’s a music store in New York that used to do cult mix tapes in the 80s called Smylonylon. He adapted it from there, incorporating ‘Styl’ instead!

What’s been your biggest challenge? I think outfit posts! Don’t get me wrong they can be fun to do, but getting someone to shoot your photos can be tricky sometimes (especially if you don’t have a camera-happy other half!) plus achieving results you’re happy with can be a bit of an effort some days. It’s been a learning curve, when I look back at some of my early posts I cringe!

What surprised you most about becoming a parent? How the love would just grow stronger every day.

What’s the best photography tip you’ve been given? Probably something geeky, like how to set custom white balance!
