City Girl On A Farm

What would be your ultimate day out? If you’re two years old, pig racing, tractor rides and seeing cows, ponies and sheep come pretty high up on the list. And so last week, that’s exactly what we did. Daisy, Laurie and I headed to Bocketts Farm, in Surrey, courtesy of Next.

Daisy’s other great love is clothes, so when Next said we could choose an outfit from their new collection she was pretty excited. Being a city girl Daisy opted for white high tops (!!) and because they were so cute, I totally failed to vet them. As it poured with rain, she ended up in her wellies. However, the high tops have become a firm favourite as they have real laces. She is determined to learn how to tie them. The racoon printed coat is shower proof and borg lined, so kept her warm, toasty and dry. Although she is convinced that the animals are actually cats.

Bocketts Farm has an amazing soft play area that is several stories high and also has roped bridges and slides. As soon as we arrived Daisy disappeared into it and Laurie and I spent the next half an hour trying to persuade her to come out. Our day started with a talk about Shetland Ponies. After running around I was amazed to see her sit still, listen and learn for so long. Being able to stroke the pony at the end, was a real highlight.

I managed to remember to opt for a top I could breastfeed Laurie in, essential as I ended up feeding him whilst Daisy fed the goats. What’s great about Bocketts Farm is it is so hands on for the kids. Sorry I’m getting side tracked, anyway I wore this very comfy floral spliced sweat. I love the voluminous sleeve and slightly shorter length of the body as it is a much more stylish version of the traditional sweatshirt. As you know I’m currently into denim with a twist, hence I choose these skinny jeans which have a spilt hem. The navy military coat, probably wasn’t very farm friendly (a common theme to this post) but I know it’ll be something I’ll pull out year after year, a true wardrobe staple.

The tractor ride was a huge hit, and included lots of jumping up and down wildly with excitement, and moments where Daisy was completely awe-struck. I’m not sure she totally appreciated seeing the birds of prey, but the trampolines were visited time and time again, as was the badge making. Most children made one badge, Daisy came away with four and now sleeps with them under her pillow.

As expected Laurie got through two outfits in the day, the word poonami comes to mind. But thankfully Next provide outfits for minis that come in packs of two. I couldn’t resist these crocodile style trousers, they have spikes on the side and an embroidered croc on the bum, seriously how cute!

Bocketts Farm is an amazingly fun place to go. Despite some rain there was so much to do and see, and I had to bribe Daisy with a chocolate bar to make sure she didn’t have a complete meltdown when we left. It was an awesome day, both kids were utterly exhausted by the end and slept all the way home. And that for me has to equal the ultimate day out.
