#ParentFail A La France

ParentFail A La FranceThe truth of the matter is that as parents occasionally we fail our children. Though I hate to admit it, there are so often things I’d rather be doing than marvelling at a stone or practising going up/down a step for the unteempth time. But that’s the beauty of childhood, simple things please. Don’t get me wrong, I love hanging out with my daughter, the older she gets the more amusing she is and the more we’ve developed our relationship. But, holiday’s pre children are all about ‘me’ or ‘us’ time. Holiday’s with kids are, well same drama, different place. Yes the ratio of adults to children generally improves, but unless you’ve persuaded the Grandparents to join you, there’s little ‘me’ time to be had.

We’ve just had two weeks in France, where Dr. Husband and I tried our best to read a book and grab the odd lie in. I thought you might like to see a few things Daisy got up to when our backs were turned in our attempt to have a little downtime.

Make Up Session

Children really do learn through copying. I was at a crucial point in my William Boyd book when Daisy decided to try out my mascara. I’m quite impressed, she even managed to get some on her eyelashes, Beauty Blogger in the making?

Climbing

This child has never been one to sit still for long. But, whilst making dinner one day Daisy climbed up on the table and I found her dancing and singing in her form of Chinese!

Wrestling

Stereotypically boys have endless energy and are very physical, whereas girls sit and read books and do puzzles. Daisy didn’t end up with any of those girl genes, and can in fact wrestle as well as any boy. Some great friends joined us for the 2nd week of our holiday and she taught her friend Jonah some new tricks.

Furniture Moving

Risk assessment comes pretty low on Daisy’s priorities, hence trying to move large pieces of furniture up and down stone steps. There were a few tears when she didn’t succeed, but hopefully she’s now learnt that valuable lesson – don’t try to move something that’s bigger than you!
