#20weekspregnant

pregnancy style

Friends continually ask how many weeks pregnant I am, and I confess that I rarely know. When I was pregnant with Daisy, I knew to the day exactly how far along I was. I could tell you whether she’d grown fingernails, and her relative size compared to a fruit. So I thought I’d write a week-by-week pregnancy diary so that no.2 doesn’t feel overlooked, and to share with you some tips for dressing a bump.

Having a baby can be an expensive business. Aside from adapting our nursery and buying a double buggy, we also need a new car and at some point a new flat/house – eeek. So my pregnancy style consists of the odd piece of maternity wear, adapted non-maternity clothing, or items stolen from Dr. Husband’s closet; needless to say he’s still not entirely happy with this arrangement.

I’m sure you’ve heard me quote the fact before that, in the UK alone we buy about 1 million tonnes of clothing and discard the same amount. So in a bid to save money and our environment, I have tried to think of different ways I can wear my favourite clothes whilst being pregnant.

Today I’m #20weekspregnant, which means I’m actually half way there. After weeks of living in maternity jeans that fall down, I was determined to find something prettier in my wardrobe. A midi-pleated skirt is an easy wardrobe staple as it transcends seasons. Wear it in the winter with a jumper, tights and boots, or in the height of summer with a T-Shirt, bare legs and trainers. I bought this one from And Other Stories last year, because I loved the graphic print. Today I discovered that if I wore it above my bump, it still fits. Yes it emphasises the bump, but that’s never a bad thing when you’re hoping for a seat on the tube.

If you have any ideas for how lengthen the life of our non-maternity clothes when pregnant, please let me know.

In our day (the 1980s) we wore tent like dresses which were pretty hideous.
