Getting Holiday Ready With Loopster!

Daisy and Laurie wearing Little Hotdog Watson Sunhats

I am completely guilty of associating a holiday with the need for an entire new wardrobe. And naturally this extends to the kids’ wardrobes too. Which coming from someone who writes about sustainable fashion, may surprise you! You see, even I need to be reminded that there are plenty of preloved children’s clothes out there.

The truth is, when we go somewhere hot, we often need to buy a few extra garments: an extra swimsuit, dress, sun hat or kaftan for throwing on at the beach. Now, the temptation is to buy new items. But, there are plenty of high quality, preloved children’s clothes out there in need of a good home. Particularly if you have little ones.

High Quality Preloved Children’s Clothes At Great Prices

We’re off to the South of France in a few weeks, so I’ve been trying to get the children’s holiday wardrobes sorted. Now, Loopster is an amazing second-hand online clothing boutique. Where you can pick up nearly new, great quality clothes at a fraction of their retail price. So I’ve been perusing their latest collection to find some extra pieces for the kids.

Daisy loves to cycle, therefore I’ve been on the hunt for some bike friendly clothing. As she’ll be cycling daily to La Boulangerie and of course La Plage. So I’ve gone for this sleeveless Salt Rock Top, from Loopster (£4) and a pair of preloved shorts (cousin hand-me-downs.) She’s also dress obsessed at the moment, so I’ve added in this beautiful preloved Monsoon gown, also from Loopster (£15). We often treat the kids to a meal out at Creperie Sel Et Sucre so it’ll soon have chocolate finger prints down it!

The Feel Good Factor

Buying preloved children’s clothes is one of the most sustainable ways to shop. According to Love Your Clothes, in the UK alone, we send 300,000 tonnes of used clothing to landfill each year. So you have the added feel good factor knowing these clothes have been rescued from landfill. And it doesn’t just stop there; you see, “increasing the life of clothing by a further 9 months would reduce carbon, waste and water footprints by 30%.”

So you get that ‘wow, doesn’t this look great!’ feeling without any of the eco-guilt. I certainly get that when I see Laurie looking super cute in his new holiday outfit. Complete mummy bias. For him, I’ve gone for a pair of jean shorts, which he’ll live in, originally Next (£3, Loopster). To go with the shorts a gorgeous underwater T shirt from Joules, which came with the tags still on (£4, Loopster.)

The Inevitable New items

Of course, there are some items in my kids’ holiday wardrobe that are new, like these whizzy sunhats from Little Hotdog Watson*. They are UPF50+, have built in anti mosquito technology and thermal regulating fabric to stop little heads overheating. Or their colourful sunglasses and Daisy’s gorgeous handmade pom pom sandals from Iris.
