The One Person Who Is Always There

Last week was a sad week for us as Dr. Husband’s Granny passed away. I’m not good at talking to old people, I never know what to say and am always worried I’ll stick my foot in it. Yet, Granny B was a wonderful lady who always went out of her way to find out how I was, and helped me realise that though our body ages the person inside doesn’t.

Her death has made me reflect on just how important mums are. For despite reaching the grand age of 96, she will still be deeply missed. A mum is /or should be, the one person who is always there. They are the person who is always on the end of a phone line, to celebrate, commiserate or just have a jolly good chin wag. Undoubtedly we take them for granted, and miss many opportunities to tell them how wonderful they are. Which is why Mother’s Day is so important.

Clearly presents are a great way of making someone feel appreciated (hint, hint husband) so here are a few ideas.

Personalised jewellery is a lovely gift. I love this simple silver necklace with each of my children’s initials engraved onto a disk. It’s from Hand on Heart Jewellery, who hand makes everything in the Lake District. You can get jewellery with your child’s hand or foot print on it, or engraved with one of their drawings.

Skincare tailored just for you. aqua oleum has just sent me a bespoke ‘Feed your Face’ super oil handcrafted by essential oil expert Julia Lawless. They’ve blended their new organic argan oil with carrot, borage, jojoba and other essential oils to create a super hydrating & anti aging facial treat. It smells amazing. aqua oleum sells a whole range of gorgeous essential oils at very reasonable prices, and they are launching a whole range of new carrier oils next month.

Flowers, handpicked from the garden are always the best. Unpretentious and thoughtful, though I never say no to a lovely big bunch from a florist!

The card, homemade or bought are equally nice. Taab London has some beautiful Mother’s Day cards, but I’m sure a squiggle from your daughter or son would work equally well. After all it’s the thought that counts.

Enjoy your Sunday! For once it’s your day.
