You need this woman to make your chocolate

Cocoa by L (7 of 7)In keeping with my New Year’s Resolution to relax more, I decided that this Friday’s treat would not be made by me. I don’t know why I have this inbuilt urge to be super women. Not only do I work, look after Daisy (which is work), run the flat, try to be a good friend and attempt to keep some form of romance alive. But I also feel the need to be culinary genius. Maybe it’s the fame of the Great British Bake Off, but somewhere along the line the 1950’s utopia of the perfect cook has returned. The only difference is that this time it’s form can be male or female.

So this Friday I’ve handed over any cooking to the experts, and so this treat comes from Layla of Cocoa by L. I discovered her wonderful chocolates at the Blogger’s Hangout Food Festival. It’s a fairy tale story, city girl ditches boring finance job in hunt of real treasure, or in this case chocolate. Her mission “is to prove that you can have a rich indulgent chocolate that is not bad for you.”

Layla’s chocolate is made in a small shop in Camden Market. What’s not to love? These are luxury raw artisan chocolates. Ethical? Absolutely, her chocolates are made from ethically sourced raw Peruvian cacao beans. Nasties? Of course not, these chocolates are free from: refined sugar, dairy, gluten and soy, which means pretty much anyone can eat them, except me. Yes my chocolate free year bet continues with Dr. Husband, I’m 9 months in. Clearly I have a stubborn streak.

With flavours like Espresso, Salted caramel, Dark Ganache with Himalayan Rock Salt, Chai and Hazelnut Roche it’s hard to know which to eat first. My parents were the lucky recipients of these chocolates, though apparently my Dad didn’t get a look in. In my mum’s own words “the chocolates were amazing” Let’s just say, come 28th April (bet ending day) Dr. Husband and I will be making a trip to Cocoa by L; delayed gratification at it’s best.
