New Year’s Resolution: Organic Skincare?

Three Organics-3Skincare and beauty guru, Lucy Meering, has considered only using organic skin care for 2016. So, when Three Organics sent me some products to try, I handed them straight to her to review. Over to Lucy:

The fact that 60% of products applied to skin is absorbed into the bloodstream*means I’m far more conscious of what I’m using nowadays.  In addition, ‘limited research has been done on many of the chemicals that can be legally used in beauty products.’** It’s no surprise then that due to increasing interest in nutrition and health, the organic philosophy has become increasingly popular; causing us to stop and think about what we’re purchasing in an attempt to avoid products containing harmful chemicals with potential health hazards.

Three Organics is a family run company which produce certified organic products in the UK*. They aim to create products that are completely free from ‘chemical pesticides & other nasties’. I was, as ever, more than happy to try a couple of facial moisturizers from their range!

Hydrate Me! Facial Oil (£18.50 for 30ml) smells divine; containing geranium & ylang ylang essential oils (among others), it is intensely moisturizing and can be used in place of moisturizer, or underneath it in the case of very dry skin. I’ve been using 3-4 drops every evening after cleansing. Wearing a headband is a must to prevent hair becoming oily & greasy looking. Since starting swimming, I’ve found that my scalp has become dry (my swimming technique and speed is not in the league of those requiring a swimming cap!). Massaging the oil into my scalp on the odd occasion before bed and shampooing off the next day, leaves hair silky soft & sorts my scalp out. For those interested, the Three Organics range also includes scalp oils which contain extra nourishing olive & argan oils.

Smooth Butter (£18 for 100ml) is one of Three Organics original products containing just three ingredients: organic shea butter, coconut & jojoba oils. It’s sold as a facial butter but is just as effective used on the body (the pot doesn’t last as long though!). The soufflé like texture is light, but very hydrating. It does impart sheen when first applied, which would discourage me from using it in the morning under makeup, however within 5-10 minutes it’s completely absorbed. If you have very dry skin, you could use it morning & evening, but for me it’s perfect used just before bed. The absence of essential oils is a good option for those who want to avoid them or have very sensitive skin; however I find the smell less appealing because of this.

As both products are so hydrating, I choose between them as my night-time moisturizer. Currently, the Three Organics range includes facial oils, facial butters, hair oils & beard oils. I’d be really interested to try more of their products should they expand the range in the future.Three Organics-2
